About
I am a self-taught artist and have been painting for about 20 years. I have painted in a range of media using watercolour, gouache, acrylic, pencils and more recently oils and mixed media.
Nature is often an inspiration for my work be it flowers and trees, the sea, animals or mountains – I aim to draw the viewer in to feelings of light and colour, the wonder and power of nature and how we and it are all connected.
Although I sometimes use reference photos and sketches, I am increasingly aware of the influence my unconscious has on the subject, colour, media and tools I use for any given work, and I just go with the flow choosing what feels right to develop it. My response to the subject also drives whether the resulting work is abstract or more realistic.
I also create work responding to my own life – my memories, emotions, my relationships and the journey I am on to be an artist. Once again, my unconscious is often the driver of the piece leading me to understanding myself better.
